I moved!

I decided to move from a blogspot blog account to Tumblr. I feel i want to write more there (more semangat hehe) I would twitter but not many people do so anyways: www.waznah.tumblr.com

First week of uni is over. Lots of things to do. So little time.

Ok, so having enough time is relative. Let's just say i'm being very immature about my finances, i still have an impulse to buy EVERYTHING (Exhibit A: i almost dished out moolah for a new GJ thermal mug) and i feel i don't have enough time because i'm busy renting out films - yea, yea, spank me, i've been a bad girl:

After having finished Criminal Minds, Season 1 and Season 2 (tsk tsk tsk):
The Guitar
This film was an official selection for Sundance Film Festival and yes, it's about a lady (Saffron Burrows) who spends probably her last two months on Earth and she got what she always wanted, a red electric guitar. It's an ok movie, i'd give it a 5.5 stars (out of 10)

Brideshead Revisited
I have no idea what attracted me to watch this film, it's um... forgettable. The guy in the film is kinda sick in a way, he isn't sure of his sexuality but one thing's for sure, he really loves this Brideshead estate. Verdict: 2 stars

Choke
From the author of Fight Club comes a film about a sex addict, a deranged mother and a crazy doctor - surely disaster follows. Dramatic and funny...in a way. I'd give it 6 stars

Caramel
C'est un bon film! First-time director Nadine Labaki (who also acts in the film) successfully potrays the lives of five women in Beirut who just want to live life. Plus, i'm pretty sure of it, they use caramel to wax legs? A must-see - 9 stars

Movie bum bum

"If you want something alot, you have to pray or you have to do something you hate and God will see you deserve it" - Phoebe in Wonderland

I had my first thesis session and my 'professional' regional geology report on the Vulcan Sub-basin is due in two weeks (already??!! I thought I just settled in). First lesson in Microeconomics is of different taste and I think it will be exciting :)

Anyways, rewind back to last week, starting 28th February 'cos I said so! Hehe, just wanted to review the 8 movies I rented:

The Delicate Art of Parking
Comedic documentary about a certain parking enforcement officer - freakishly cool to watch. Rotten tomatoes say 78% and I can agree :)

Smart People
Ellen Page is elegant and i envy her sense of fashion in this film. Although the consensus that the movie is "too thinly plotted to fully resonate" (Rotten Tomatoes), I quite enjoyed it.

The Edge of Heaven (An der anderen Seite)
A friend recommended this to me and I do not regret watching this. I would recommend this film to anyone. One word: Beautiful. Rotten Tomatoes say a very ripe 90%.

A la folie, pas de tout... (He loves me, he loves me not)
Audrey Tautou is brilliant in this film playing this young lady who is literally crazy in love. Bravo.

Phoebe in Wonderland
Elle Fanning is genius and talented. A must-see.

Hey Hey It's Esther Blueberger
Australian and amazing plot about a girl who just wanted to fit in

Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging
Based on two novels, Gurinder Chadha does not disappoint as the director of a film about a girl who wants a guy. Haha, I seriously felt embarassed as i could totally relate! Rotten Tomatoes report 67%

Starting Out in The Evening
Frank Langella is truly an impressive actor. Another must-see.

And it begins

"There is no more vulnerable human combination than an undergraduate" - John Sloan Dickey

First day at uni is over. Lecture on Enhanced Oil Recovery/Enhanced Gas Recovery (EOR/EGR) with Mr. Y (or Dr. Y rather) this morning was stimulating considering the fact that there were two pop quizzes! Three years and i'm still surprised at how slow it takes to access my long-term memory.

I shall remind myself to take baby steps.

Freaking scary. Impressive. Directed by Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona and produced by Pan's Labyrinth's , Guillermo del Toro.
Wow. You have to watch this. Mr Guillermo del Toro - you are a genius.
Wanah's film rating: 9/10 for the horror

Kung Fu Thursday

i enjoyed this movie - hilarious and simple. Jack Black definitely makes me want to take up kungfu albeit the physical state *plays with tummy blubber and thinks when was the last gym session* but hey, Jackie Chan was in it too! i also especially liked Oogway and his wrinkly body uhuhu..
"There is no secret ingredient.."
Wanah's film rating: 8/10
